The first Freitas is documented in the very first document to the Americas. She was the sister of Leif Errickson, daughter of Eric the Red. She was also the first documented Axe Murderer. Take a look at my website http://www.railsoft.com/roots for all the details.

Hawaii commission a man to find people that were willing to work for money. This was because, in general, the Hawaiian people did not like to work. Free passage was given to those of Madeira that were willing to move to Hawaii and work. This was because the weather on Madeira is almost identical to that of Hawaii.

If you have family that came to Hawaii through Madeira that does not mean that they lived on Madeira. Once word got out some would come from the mainland to Madeira in order to get the free transportation and job.
