Hi,
I am helping a friend do some family research. His grandfather's name was Domingue Frates (Freitas) He says his family was from Madeira Islands, Portugal.
The grandfather's name was Domingue Frates age 46 on 1920 Census for New Bedford, Mass. The wife's name was Antonia, age 35. Son Augusto, age 7 is my friend's father. Does anyone have any information on where my friend can locate immigration info. and info. from Portugal? Would appreciate all help. It also appears that New Bedford, Mass. had a very large Portuguese community in 1920, most employed at a cotton mill!
