Freyre in Cuba

Hi,
My father is Angel Placido Freyre son of Jose Freyre... as I understand it my grandfather immigrated to Cuba (Holguin, Oriente, Cuba) with his father from Las Coruñas, Spain which is the province of Galicia. We still have family there as well (if I’m not mistaken). As far as the spelling of our name I believe there was maybe a family feud at some point and half the family kept the original spelling with "i" and the other have wanting to be distinguished from the other half decided to spell it with a "Y". Phonetically in Spanish its of no consequence since the sound is the same. I actually have a first cousin that spells his name with an "i". Another interesting fact is that I believe my grandmother (paternal) was actually a "Freire" who married a "Freyre" genetically I believe they were in fact 1st cousins. I would love to hear from you as I also I’m trying to build my family tree. Unfortunately since there are no records in Cuba or none that I can certainly get to that portion of my families trip through time will be difficult to reconstruct. That is also the hardest because it’s the first step of the chain I need to get started.
