More information on Mathew Freeman, Mariah Hilton, and Bazzil Freeman

Information from: Eileen Bridges
Comments: This record can be found at the County Court Records, Film # 1008065 - 1008066 & 1009139.
From "Inscriptions of Shelby county, Illinois Cemeteries" by Ed Boedecker, Volum IX
Buried in William Price Cemetery, Oconee Twp, Sec 35, located about 5 miles southeast of Oconee, IL.
James Freeman - Pvt Ill Mtd Vols Black Hawk War - January 20, 1871
[then listed in the compiler's note with this is - mar Polly Price, a sister of Wm Price, listed on vet grave reg as pvt Houston's Co 3 Brig]
Listed next was:
Matthew, husband of Mariah J. Freeman - Died Mar. 30, 1963 - Aged 37years 4months 4days
[then added note - a Matthew Freeman listed as 1st Lieut Co F 115th Ill Inf, died Mar 30, 1863, in muster roll Page 114 of 1881 Comb History of Shelby & Moultrie Co's Ill]
No tombstone listing was found for Mariah.

Then in the Shelby Co. Historical/Genealogical Society Publication, "Administrator Records, Book B, 1865-1871] is:

Freeman, Mariah J. - Pg 34
died 26 Mar 1866
died intestate
heirs, Elisha, Francis, Celia, and Ardilla Freeman
appt adm. Milton J. Jones
Principal, 3-31-1866
Security, William Woolard & Edwin A. Boaz

From this record, one would assume that Mariah J. Freeman died without a will, possessed with property and heirs were probably under age, making necessary guardianship. The administrator always had to have a bond secured with individuals as named. It would look as if this took place immediately.
This cemetery sets very close to the Fayette Co., Il line and you might want to check that county for some Freeman records also.
Do you think Matthew and your ancestor could be brothers?
In the Society's publications were these two in indexes, no further info regarding heirs:
Probate Bk 6, pages 601-606 - Matthew Freeman
Probate Bk I, [not 1 but "I"], James Freeman, deceased estate adm. M. J. Ones, pg 23, final settlement of estate - apparently heirs were not listed as a ? is in place of heirs.
In this same book was a listing for:
Freeman, Francis M., Elisha and Celia A., minors - pg 130, guardian, Wm. Woolard
Freeman, Nancy E. and Polly J., minors, pg 134, guardian Edmund A. Boaz
Freeman, Ellen and Elizabeth, minors, pg 184, guardian, Thomas Freeman

Hopefully some of this helps. Good Luck in your search. Eileen Bridges
