To all those Freemans out there, The Prather family is forever indebted to a gentleman by the name of Thomas Freeman, Esq. of Frederick County, Maryland. In approximately 1787, Mr. Freeman married my ancestor Margaret Prather Prather who was the paternal grandmother of 5 orphaned Prather children. Margaret's son was Thomas Prather and wife Mary Phillips both died in 1786. Think about what Mr. Freeman did. He married a 57 year old widowed grandmother who was rearing 5 grandchildren under the age of 11. Out of gratitude for that act we have carried the Freeman name in our children from 1787 to this day. One of the "five little Prathers" was Eleanor who married Abraham McKinney in 1796. They were determined to name a son Thomas Freeman McKinney, but the first two sons died in infancy. The third, lived a long life and became the first Admiral of the Texas Navy. McKinney Falls State Park in Austin, Texas is named in his honor. I have no family information for Mr. Thomas Freeman, Esq. of Frederick County, Maryland, but would love some. Sometimes our greatest contributions are not made by our blood, but by our acts. Sincerely, John Freeman Prather Austin, Texas P. S. My son's name is John Thomas Freeman Prather My brother's name is Thomas David Prather My father's name was Thomas James Prather My great grandfather's name was Thomas Freeman Prather, Jr. My great great grandfather's name was Thomas Freeman Prather , Sr. Notify Administrator about this message?
