Judy, the Freeman Family that I found in Maries County in the 1860 census is my best clue that links my Abigail Freeman to the Warren County, KY, Freeman’s. The reason the Maries County, William Freeman family looks good is that their farm is located just down the road from where my Abigail Allison-Freeman lived in Paydown MO, 5 months before her husband Alexander Allison dies. My Abigail Freeman has a history of marrying men that are geographically close to her. She literally marries men that live next-door to her. I can trace Abigail’s marriages and her kids from the various (3) marriages from the time of her first marriage with Alexander Allison in Franklin Co, MO, in 1848 to 1866. I feel confident that William Freeman is related to my Abigail but I have yet been able to collect any documented proof. Abigail would be far removed from the Freeman family by 1860 with her own kids to take care of and such. That’s why she does not show up with the Freeman family on the 1850 census. If the name of the daughter in 1833 to 34 on the 1840 census could be linked to a Freeman family history page/website some where in KY linking my Abigail to this family of Freemans that would do the trick. I’m looking for that now but with out success. Listed below are some clues or possibilities people have provided me but I cannot tie in to yet: 1860 Paydown, Jackson Twp, Maries, MO Farm number 250 William Freeman, 56, born 1804 KY No Wife listed Oldest daughter missing possibly my Abigail Polly, 25, born 1835 KY Louisa, 22, b. 1838 KY Ezekiel, 15, b. 1845 KY Dillard, 10, b. 1850 KY Isaac, 7, b. 1853 KY Unnamed male child, 4, b. 1856 KY You can see below the Maries Co Freeman family above in the 1860 census can be traced back to Warren, Co, KY on both the 1840 and 1850 census and an unnamed daughter (1830-35) is mentioned. 1840 Census Warren County, Kentucky John Freeman Age 20-30 (b. 1810-1820) Wife Age 20-30 (b. 1810-1820) Daughter Age 5-10 (b. 1830-1835) Not on 1850 Census Daughter Age und 5 (b. 1835-1840) Polly A. Son Age und 5 (b. 1835-1840) William Daughter Age und 5 (b. 1835-1840) Louisa 1850 Census Warren County, Kentucky District 2 John Freeman Age 48 VA (b. 1802) Elizabeth Age 39 VA (b. 1811) Eldest daughter (born 1830-1835) missing, could be Abigail Polly A. Age 15 KY (b. 1835) William Age 13 KY (b. 1837) Louisa Age 9 KY (b. 1841) b. 1838/9 Ezekiel Age 8 KY (b. 1842) John D. Age 4 KY (b. 1846) Isaac Age 2/12 KY (b. 1850) There were no other Freeman’s in Warren County, KY but it is possible that John/William was related to the Freeman’s in bordering counties like you mentioned. If we can establish the existence of my Abigail/Abigale to the 1860 Maries county Freeman’s then every thing would probably fit together. But I have yet to be able to do this due to lack of census information. No one that I know of has researched this group of Freeman’s so we are all starting from scratch. It is strange that my Abigail's birthplace was listed as "Missouri" on both the 1850 and 1860 census. William Freeman and all of his children were born in Kentucky. It is possible Abigail's birthplace was incorrectly recorded on both censuses, but it's hard to figure why she would have been mistaken about her own place of birth. Here are some possibilities I’m trying to look at now. I’m trying to eliminate them one by one: 1st possibility, The 1850 Census shows a John Freeman, born 1765, VA, in Division 2 of Barren County (bordering Warren County). Next-door was his son, George W. Freeman, born 1823, KY. 2nd possibility, In Division 2 of Barren County was a Thomas Freeman, born 1785 VA, and next door was his son William B. Freeman, born 1810 KY. There were also a couple of widows (heads of households) in the elderly age bracket. 3rd possibility, In bordering Logan County, Kentucky, the 1850 census shows a John P. Freeman (born 1793 VA) and a Henry Freeman (born 1803 NC). It would be nice to know if any of those families lived in close proximity to William Freeman of Warren County. 4th Possibility, William Freeman could have been an uncle, but it's hard to sort it out without some semblance of documentary proof. The 1840 and 1850 census shows Freeman’s from Kentucky in Boone County, MO. Any possible connection to Abigail or William Freeman? There were also Freeman’s from Tennessee in neighboring Callahan County, MO, during that time period. 5th Possibility, On familysearch.org we find an 1848 marriage of Alexander Allison and Abigail Freeman. I can trace the children of that marriage and link them to my Abigail. But I can not positively link my Abigail Allison-Freeman to any Freeman family except for the Freeman family that shows up on the Maries County, MO, 1860 census. Since Alexander and Abigail were living in St. Louis in 1850, and since both Alexander and Frederick were carpenters, it might not hurt to run a trace on this family too. Notice also the Kentucky connection. 1850 St. Louis, MO - Ward 6 Frederick Freeman 53 (b. 1798) NY CARPENTER Susan 32 (b. 1818) VA Nancy 17 (b. 1833) KY John 14 (b. 1836) KY Jeannette 6 (b. 1844) MO Susan 5 (b. 1845) MO If anyone can eliminate or connect these possibilities I could use the help.
