Barney Freelove at Castleton, VT is probably the Barney FREELOVE who married Catherine EATON.Maybe we can figure this line out together. (This probably goes back to an Eaton Mayflower line eventually.)
They had a daughter Lucy A. FREELOVE b circa 1834 d 16 May 1882 Castleton, VT m Leander Harvey JONES on 5 July 1849 in Sudbury, VT. They were married by James K. Hyde, J. P.
Leander Harvey JONES is brother of my great-great grandfather, William "Guy" Carleton JONES. (They are sons of Capt. William JONES and Sophronia LEE of Castleton.Sophronia LEES's father Noah LEE was the founder of Castleton - along with Bird.)
I have two children for Leander JONES and Lucy A. FREELOVE, as follows:
Charles H. JONES b 28 Jan 1857 d 8 Apr 1880 Castleton.
Rosa Lee JONES b 20 Feb 1859 d 12 Jun 1876 Castleton.
I don't have a great deal on this family but what I do have is rather sad.Neither of Leander and Lucy's children had issue.Charles died apparently by poison (a suicide) at a young age.His sister pre-deceased him by a few years and her death record gives "consumption" as the cause.
Their mother Lucy's death record gives "heart disease" as cause of her death, just two years after her son Charles took his own life.
Look at the death dates. );
Leander died in 1893.I have Leander's will.In it he leaves his farm to be unsold for five years after his death and the proceeds to be used to erect a Vermont granite monument in the Castleton cemetery for his parents and other family members.I have photos of this monument.
To my knowledge, he never remarried but left his best rocking chair to the widow of his deceased brother, my great great grandfather (his 2nd wife, at the time).
I would like to fill in the missing FREELOVE side of this family.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Wendy Jones de Geofroy
