James M.C. Freeland named a son James Pleasant Freeland. I'm not sure that I believe this is total coincidence. In 1840, J.M.C. and Daniel Firman Freeland lived in Augusta, GA. Both became U.S. Postmasters. There was a third male living in the same residence with them in 1840. Could that male have been your James P. Freeland ? J.M.C. became Postmaster at Plum Branch, SC, and died there. Daniel Firman Freeland was Postmaster of Lowndesville, SC, married Louisa May Bowman, moved to Strawberry Plains, Tennessee, and had children that lived and died around Turnersville, Texas. Some descendants still live around Gatesville, Texas. I also know that Isaac Freeland was in Georgia much earlier, as well as Bazil and Job Freeland. They are all mentioned as early as October 7, 1814 in the Augusta Chronicle newspaper. Both J.M.C. and Daniel Firman were born in New Jersey. I hope some of this helps or has some importance.
