Thank you for your message.
Your grandfather Ernest corresponded with my grandmother Ruby (Robina) in 1964 and also with her sisters-in-law Barbara who resided in San Francisco and Marguerite who was also in the United States.Barbara died in 1989 and my grandmother in 1993.We do not know details of Marguerites death.
The following message sets out the details most of which came from Ernest in that correspondence
"I am trying to trace ancestors/descendants of 3 brothers who came from County Armagh and were believed to have landed in New York in 1800.
The brothers are John Freeland born in Armagh in 1770; Isaac Freeland born about 1768 and James Freeland believed to have been born in Armagh in 1773 or 1774.
There were also 3 other brothers and 1 sister. David Freeland and Ann Freeland were believed to have remained in Armagh while the other brothers William and Charles Freeland came to Auchinleck, Ayrshire, Scotland in 1845.
James Freeland was the great grandfather of Ernest Freeland who resided in Kansas City Missouri in 1964.
I have information taken from a gravestone in Auchinleck cemetery that some of William's children moved to America as there are recorded deaths as follows:
James Freeland died at Selma, Fresno, California on 16 July 1896 as a result of an accident at age 46 years.Apparently his horse-buggy stalled on a railway track and was struck by a train.
Charles Freeland died at Fresno, California aged 70 (unfortunately I do not have either the date of birth or death).
David Freeland died at Nevada, California 26 January 1935 aged 73 years."
As you can see from the above your grandfather Ernest comes from the line of the brother James, 1 of the 3 brothers to land in New York in about 1800.
My line is from the brother William who remained in Auchinleck and was the brother of Ernest's great grandfather James.
Any information you can give me regarding your line of the family from the brother James down to your grandfather, to your father Roy through you and any brothers and sisters etc would assist me and more particularly my sister who is really the one who does the family tree work in our family.
With kind regards
Neal.
