Hi,
Abraham Freeland, [Vreeland], in the 1810 Census of Ulysses, Seneca Co., New York, appears to be your ancestor.Abraham is listed near Joseph Canan and Peter Putman who were living then in Applegate Corner, NY.Peter Putman married Sarah Kinnan [Canan].
In the 1820 census, Abraham Freeland is listed right next to Peter Putman [and his son Victor] in Barrington, Steuben Co., New York.Abraham then moves on to Jasper, Steuben C., New York, I believe by 1830.
Back in 1810 Applegate Corner, NY, Peter Putman's son John Putman it appears met and married Sarah, or Sally, Martin the daughter of Mulford Martin and Betsey Rolfe. The Rolfe families were prominent members of the Applegate community as were the Applegate, Selover, Letts, and Bucklew [Burlew] families.
Many of the people of Applegate Corner were previous members of the Cheesequake, New Jersey, area, although the Putman family was from Sandyston, Sussex Co., New Jersey.
I think all of these families had some type of military connection as Applegate Corner was in the Military Tract of land grants.
Have you learned anything new about Abraham Freeland?
