Hello. I went through a few of your old posts and found this: there is a family page , who has a ancestors of stephen y. burke and a johnson burke and jane. i would like some information form them johnson and jane had a daughter by name of mary j. burke, that marry a simon free. mygrandfather name was simon free that marry a mary j. burke also. i would like to know if you have anything on the free family i know simon father was a samuel free that marry a susannah strong. simon and mary were also marry in crawford co, ark.

I will post now info as I find it:

I found a Samuel and Susanna Free, 1860 census Crawford Co., AR but no children with them. Simon lives next door with wife Mary with no children yet.

1860 Samuel Free, 69 or 59,(transcriber indicates 64) farmer, born Pennsylvania
Susanna, 49?, born PA
Simon, 20, farmer, born OH

1870 Bond Co., IL
Simon Free, 30, farmer, born OH
John 7 IL
William 10 IL
Susanna 66 PA

In 1880 Susanna and her grandchildren all lived in separate households as boarders or in the boys' case as employees. They must have lost their dad pretty early because either they didn't know much about him? And where he was born or whomever answered the door just told the census taker whatever. In one case their mother was "born" in Arkansas.

I followed a possible James Free who moved to Perry Co IL by 1900 and married a Melissa. His age is okay and his lack of knowledge on his parents or whomever opened the door, is consistent. I think he was still there in 1910 but by 1920 and 1930 he lived in Puyallup, Pierce Co., WA

I had less luck with John.

I also couldn't go back any further on Samuel and Simon today. Sorry.
