Dear Nita,
I will try to fill you in on Amanda Berlincourt and my father.
At times I will include other spellings of names or other dates that have been used on various documents or sites.
Just in case you don't have this info: John P. Berlincourt and Lizzie Paroz - Paron - Parrow parents of Cyrus, Martin, Victor. John P.died about 1839. In 1843 Lizzie and Cyrus imigrated to America.
I have no info on Martin. He may not have imigrated to the U.S. or may have died young.
Cyrus later preferred to use Court rather than Berlincourt.
Amanda - Mandy - Manda Berlincourt - Burlingcourt was unwed when she gave birth to Paul Charles Berlincourt on Aug. 15, 1913 in Sears,MI. His father was listed as unknown but we are very certain of his name. I have recently been in touch the family but feel I need permission to use his name. Paul was placed with foster parents and was with them until he was 11yrs. old. It was then (1924 or 25) that his foster father died and since he had not been adopted he was removed from the only mother he had known. He was placed in an orphanage and from there "farmed out" to various locations. At times he was treated cruelly, fed little and at times forced to sleep in the barn. The 1930 census lists him living with William and Edith Meyers on a farm in Sanilac Co., Bridgehampton twp.,MI. These may be the folks that treated him well but regardless of that, at 16 he ran away, "hit the rails" and eventually landed in Calif. were he spent the rest of his life. He died: May 8, 1987.
Some time during my dad's life the spelling of his name was changed from Berlincourt to BERLENCOURT. It remaind Berlencourt and that is the name my sister and I were born with.
RE: Amanda. Siblings:
Harvey: married Malinda Yoder.
Samuel - Samiel b: Jan.3,1888 d: Jan.26, 1965 in a house fire in Sears near Reed City,MI. Buried at Maple Hill
Cemetary.
Willie: died young buried at Blanchard, Isabella Co.,MI
Five year old girl: died in a house fire at Meauwataka,MI where she is buried.
Some time after Paul was born Amanda married a John Bolser. They had a daughter: Alice May Bolser b: Oct.12,1915 in White Cloud,MI. She was adopted.
A short time into the marriage, Amanda left John and returned to her family. The 1930 census lists her as Manda B. Bolser (rather than Bolzer).
On a copy of a birth certificate, both Amanda's and Paul's names were spelled Burlingcourt. The date of Paul's birth is incorrectly listed as Aug.5. There were other mistakes on the document as well.
Hope this isn't an overload of information. I have other info that would be easier sent via private email.
Thank you for your intrest.
Joyce
