Mikie,

Wow, thanks so much for all that! You have missing pieces that I need. All I have is a census from 1880, showing the family as I posted it, and Stephen's occupation as Shoemaker.

I was lost without any maiden name for Philena. I'm confused about Sowey/Sewey. Is there some confusion on the exact spelling of her maiden name? Either way it's a blessing. It gives me something to start with to go further.

And I'm confused about Etienne, is that the french form of Stephen? I noticed in some of your other posts it says, Etienne (Stephen) Frechette, so I didn't know if they are the same name.

Stephen and Philena are my fathers great grandparents, my GG grandparents. My paternal grandmother, Mildred Laird/Kayler, is a daughter of Alice Frechette and George Laird. Alice is Stephens second daughter. Alice had another daughter named Orean. I never knew anything about his family on his mother's side. I only knew my great aunt Orean, and my fathers great aunt Mattie died when I was a baby.

There were also reportedly some priests and nuns on his side. And looking through the census records, I found a Sister Ambrosia Frechette. My mother had a picture of a nun when I was little, and all she told me was that was Sister Ambrosia. There are two or three other Frechette Sisters (nuns) on the census as well.

I think they are all Charles daughters. I also found him and his family in the census, and I figured he must be Stephen's brother, and his kids are cousins to Stephens kids.

My sister has my Aunt Orean's prayer books and some funeral cards that are in them. One has Cora Kerr written on it, so I suspect that is Stephen's youngest daughter by her married name. There are a couple other cards with names on as well that I have to check into.

Is this Stephen Frechette in your family, and if so, could we exchange info on the family. I have more questions now but don't know if you have any of the answers. Is there someplace where I can get a copy of that marriage book you mentioned in other posts? Do you have all the relations taking the family back to France?

Please feel free to email me anything you have at cutipi7@gmail.com We can keep posting the info on the board for others benefit, but I may have more questions if you wouldn't mind me asking for your time.

I was at a loss as Stephens children all seemed to have dropped off the census records. My next step was to go down the Charles route to see if there was a connection.

Thanks again so much for your generosity. Rosie
