David - several FRASER/FRAZER researchers, including me, are descended from FRAZERs who moved from Knock, Ayrshire, SCT, in about 1650, to areas north of Lough Key, north of Boyle, in northern Roscommon County, IRE, and expanded into nearby areas of Leitrim and Sligo Counties. The best summary of our research is at Joel Hartley's excellent web page:
http://home.comcast.net/~jmhartley/Frazer/fraze001.htm

If your Mary or Margaret is from this branch, the "nearly related" to the 11th Lord Lovat is true, but a stretch, as this Irish branch is descended from John FRASER of Knock, son of Hugh FRASER, 1st of Lovat, and Isobel WEMYSS. The title Lord Lovat wasn't used until 4 generations later, by Hugh Fraser, 6th of Lovat, and 1st Lord Lovat. The 11th Lord Lovat, was the notorious Simon Fraser, who was executed in 1747. All the information in this paragraph is shown on page 80 of the book Clan Fraser, by Flora Marjory Fraser.

Upper Stramore is in Donegal, I think, not very near these FRAZER roots.

Jane
