The following two obituaries are in this Bible:
"DIED - On the morning of the 19th inst., at the residence of her brother-in-law, A.G. Craig, Esq., in Carroll county, Mrs. Mary T. Chiles, in her 42nd year of age. She was the eldest daughter of Mr. R.E. Brooking of Clarke, and a relict of the late Col. C.G. Chiles of Indiana. Few of her sex possessed more virtues, added to a cultivated mind. She was a practical christian, and her friends have the lively hope that she has made a happy exchange."
(Written beneath is the date 19 December 1848)
"Death of Mrs. Frazer.
Mrs. Laura B. Frazer, wife of Dr. Warren Frazer, lately deceased, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A.S. Winston, on Broadway, this city, Sunday morning last at 7 1/2 o'clock, in the seventieth year of her age, just nine weeks to the day and hour after the death of her devoted husband. She was a woman singularly gifted in the attributes of a good heart and a cheerful disposition. From the days of her early childhood to those of her matured and matronly associations, her home was the home of hospitality and the bright sunshine of cheerful and consistent living. Devoted to her husband, warmly affectionate and confiding to her children, the even tenor of her life was one continuous pathway of light and love. Without guile and free from pretense, her social life was only a reflex of that of her home, lending the light of a cheerful and affectionate nature to all about her. Her death was as peaceful and calm as her life was serene and beautiful, leaving no painful recollections for those of her children and family who were called upon so suddenly to witness the severance of the holiest and tenderest attachments of life. The funeral services, conducted by Rev. Mr. Stansberry, drew together a large concourse of the friends and social connections of the deceased, giving evidence of the effectionate regard in which her memory is held."
