A reunion is planned for Saturday, June 9, 2012, at 11 p.m., at Asbury School, in Marshall County, Alabama. The reunion is being jointly sponsored by the Old Bethel Cemetery Association and the Shoal Creek Cemetery Association. These two cemeteries are on the line between Dekalb County and Marshall County, near the Asbury community in Marshall County. The reunion will include an historical tour of the two cemeteries. Burials at Shoal Creek Cemetery were from 1860 to 1936 and surnames are Burt, Cooper, Dowdy, Findley, Frasier, Harrison, King, Machen, Mitchell, Painter, Rogers, Slaton, Smith and Tucker. Burials at Old Bethel Cemetery were from 1876 to 1998 and surnames are Bain, Bartle, Bearden, Bryant, Findley, Harrison, Holcomb, Hyde, Isbell, King, Mann, Morgan, Nall, Oaks, Smith and Taylor. Members of these families, and friends in the community who are interested in the preservation of these cemeteries and their historical heritage, are invited to support the work of these two incorporated cemetery associations, and to attend the reunion. The reunion is held every other year, on the second Saturday of June in the even-numbered years. There are web sites to introduce the history of these two cemeteries, and raise funds for their preservation. The address for the Old Bethel Cemetery Association is www.oldbethelcemetery.org, and the address for the Shoal Creek Cemetery Association is www.shoalcreekcemetery.org. Please let others know who would be interested in attending the reunion or in giving financial support to the cemetery associations.
