BLACK Betty (nee Fraser) Passed away at Vernon Jubilee Hospital at the age of 87 after a brief battle with cancer. She is survived by Richard (Dick) her devoted husband of 40 years. She also leaves behind brother Pete (Doreen), sister Joan Latin, sister-in-law Lorraine Fraser, stepchildren Vincent (Lynn), Christine (Al), grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends. She was predeceased by brother Ken in 1999. "Auntie Betty" played a prominent role in the lives of her nieces and nephews and she will be forever locked away in their hearts. Betty was born in Saskatchewan, the eldest of four, and the family moved to Vancouver during the depression. Betty went to work at age 13, finally settling at McMillan Bloedel's plywood plant in Burnaby and retired 30 years later. It was during this time while helping her parents and family that she met and married her husband Dick. Upon retirement they resided in Winfield and then Vernon where she spent her last few years. There will be no service. The family will gather in the spring to celebrate her wonderful life. Donations to the BC Cancer Society may be made in Betty's name.
