I would guess your ancestor was from the area of Germany called"Rhine-Palatinate" East of Luxembourg, over nearly to Frankfurt. Jacob was one of the frequently used given names for Fanzman boys, so I have several in my spreadsheet where I am keeping track of all Franzman immigrants found. If you want, I will send you the "Jacob data" I have so far.
Most Franzmans so far trace back to towns named Boos, Nussbaum, Meisenheim, Weinshiem, and several others, all clustered around Bad Kreuznach within 20 miles. A group of Franzmans in the US came from farther north, in Westphalia. Another group came here from Russia, but I suspect the two groups above split off from an older family near Bad Kreuznach and moved north from there. The Westphalia Franzmans were even told that they were from a group that started out further south in Germany and moved.
As a long-term project I would like to find as
many links for Franzmans back in Germany. I will appreciate any help anyone is willing to offer.
