No, I don't know anything about the Eickelmanns. Sorry. There was a Gerh. Eitelmann (along with 4 Franzens and others) who in 1848 was a charter member of St. John's in Addison twnp. (Bensonville). Maybe it is a misinterpretation of the spelling of the name?
I have a pamphlet entitled "Johann Heinrich Franzen", written in German and published in 1893 as a tribute to him after his death. There is a translation of the first part which tells of the 1834 journey with his parents and 4 siblings. If you don't have it, you might want me to type that part and send it. The 2nd part I don't have translated because JHF isn't my ancestor and the rest looks to me like a funeral sermon.
David Koss, 114 Dundee Ave, Barrington IL 60010, did a Franzen family tree and has researched many of the families from the Shale area. Don't know whether that would include the Eickelmanns, but he would be an excellent source to try.
