My ggg grandfather John Dowell born 1764 in Albermarle Co VA. Moved in 1778 to Burke Co NC and lived in Morgan district. We have a paper that states John Dowell's first wife was (first name unknown) Franklin. They had one son George. She died and he remarried to Sarah Hickman. We have searched for the first name of his unknown Franklin wife who we believe died before 1797 when John dowell married Sarah. George was born in 1789 & was apparently partly reared by Sarah Hickman. George later lived in Owen co Indiana, eventually to MO. We have been trying to eliminate every Franklin female in Burke Co of an age and time to be John Dowell's 1st wife and have come up with Anna, by a process of elimination. John Franklin Sr of burke Co died in 1818-1819. He & phoebe had a daughter named Anna. No other researchers seem to know much about Anna - no marriages for her, death dates, etc. We are looking for John sr's will to see if Anna is named. If not, then she still fits as our missing wife. (dead by date of will 1819). One other item makes us look at this Anna. Our family tradition was that we were kin to "THE BEN FRANKLIN". My grandmother even told me that our G G grandmother was a Franklin. I understand that it is proven that John Franklin Sr is NOT related to THE BEN but also that many of the descendents have been lead to believe they were related. I read that "if your family is from Burke Co NC and you have a tradition of being related to THE BEN Franklin, you likely descend from this family." Can anyone help us with the will of John SR and with any info on daughter Anna that will prove or disprove our theory that she was married to John Dowell. Thanks for any help
