“Cecil Franklin, 65, of Georgia and formerly of Hayesville, North Carolina, died Sunday, November 3, 2002 at Northside Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.
He was a native of Clay County [North Carolina] the son of the late Fred and Laura Jane Stewart Franklin. He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired apartment maintenance supervisor. He was a member of Jonesboro First Baptist Church in Jonesboro, Georgia.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Harold Franklin.
Surviving are his wife, Nancy Mae Gilman Franklin; one son, Gerald Franklin of Blairsville, Georgia; one step-son, Jim Quinn of Lawrenceville, Georgia; one daughter, Janet Franklin of Ashland, Alabama; one brother, John W. Franklin of Hayesville, North Carolina; one sister, Jo Ann Owenby of Blairsville; and three grandchildren, Wayne Poss, Steven Poss and Megan Franklin; two step-grandchildren, Crystal Morris and Travis Swain; one great-grandchild, Allison Poss; three step great-grandchildren, Austin Swain, Justin Morris and Kaitlynn Swain; and two nieces and two nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 7, at Many Forks Baptist Church in Young Harris [Towns Co.] Georgia. The Rev. James Lee officiated. Burial was in Many Forks Baptist Church Cemetery in Young Harris, with military graveside rites conducted by Fort McPherson. Pallbearers were Roger Owenby, Harmon Stewart, Ronald Ford, James Quinn, Travis Swain and Ronald Wood.
The family received friends Wednesday, November 6, 6-8 p.m. at Townson Rose Chapel in Hayesville, North Carolina.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 773, Jonesboro, Georgia 30237.
Townson Rose Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.”
