Leigh Emerson Franklin b. 1901 Colorado. d.California m. Lena
I would like contact with someone that knows something about this family.
I know from Leigh Emerson Franklin's draft registration that he is the son of my George Ulysus Franklin who 1st. married Nora. George Franklin's address at that time was given as: 1604 6th Ave. Seattle Washington. The death index says Leigh's father's last name is Emerson-- I think that is probably a mistake. It probably means his mother's maiden name was Emerson (Nora). He is on the 1910 census in Alameda County, California. At that time he was listed as Lee being 9 years old.He is listed with his father George U. Franklin and stepmother Frances and two half sisters Lucile 3 and Irene 1.By 1920 Leigh is out in the woods working in the lumber industry in Mendocino County ,Cuffey's Cove Twp,California. At that time he probably lied about his age (26) as he did on the draft registration (20).In 1930 Leigh (33) is listed with his wife Lena in Alameda County, California.
Leigh's father(George Franklin b.Christian or Sangamon County, Illinois) and mother(Nora b. Indiana) are listed on the 1900 census in Teller County, Colorado. George Ulysis Franklin's parents were William Benjamin Franklin and Sarah Ann Jones.William Benjamin Franklin's father is suppose to be Luther Franklin on the 1820 census in Indiana.
It is my understanding that Nora died and that George Ulysis Franklin married Frances ?. Frances last name may have been Tuttle or Tuttler if I have the correct Lucile pinpointed. George and Frances separated. She and the children stayed in Alameda County, California. She is on the 1920 and 1930 census there.George went to Washington.
I have not found George Ulysus on the 1920 or 1930 census. (He could be the George in Seattle, King County, Washington[1920 census] working as a car salesman but if so his age and parents birthplaces are a ways off.) It could be he didn't want certain people to have the correct information. He had a photo taken at some time in Seattle, Washington. There is information that he died in Shelton, Mason county, Washington in 1947 and is buried in the Chappell family plot. The Chappell family is looking for a connection of him to their family. It could be that his daughter Lucile married a Chappell but at this point I have no proof except a name on the death index in California.
Georges brothers and sisters listed under Luther (see my other post below and on the RootswebFranklin surname board). George'smother died when he was born. His nephew (my grandfather) reported that he was mischievous.
I am seeking help in finding more information about him.--such as his wife's last names. I have less information about him than about his brothers and sisters. I also want more information about Leigh, Lucile and Irene. Please contact me by post or other means.
