COULD THIS BE HE - NICHOLAS
Nicholas Francklin must have been born about 1648 and was probably an English immigrant. He was a witness to the will of Thomas Bowler in Old Rappahannock Co., VA as of 02 Jul 1677. When the will was proven, 17 Mar 1678/9, he was judged by the court to be 31 years of age or there abouts. He is on the Register of Petsworth Parish, Gloucester Co., VA along with Major Robert Beverly and about 15 others making a donation - his, 1 Lb. He is found on the Quit Rent Rolls of 1704 in Essex Co., Va with 130 acres claimed. On 02 Feb 1704/5 there was a surveyor report concerning a land difference dispute (ongoing) between Nicholas and Richard Goode. On 09 Feb 1704/5 Nicholas Franklin, Plaintiff - Richard Goode, Defendant, Found for the def., Richard Goode was not a trespasser. This also in Essex Co.
On 13 May 1705, Nicholas Franklin of St. Annes Parish, Essex Co., VA sells 210 acres to George Loyd. This is land that he bought in 2 parcels 21 Sep 1675. It appears that Nich/Nich'o/Nicholas Franklin did something unusual in those days. He bought a farm and kept it for nearly 30 years, thiswas near to the eastern border of Caroline Co. but remained in Essex (Occupatia Creek) when Caroline co. was formed.
Does anyone have any further information on this man - his family? He appears at about age 29 and disappears at about age 57. I would like to know more about him - please share.Roland
