Another minor clue: Samuel FRANKLIN's (FRANKEL's) sister married a Pliner. There was a "Nat" Pliner who would possibly have been Samuel's nephew. Come to think of it, my father, Harry FRANKLIN, had a brother Nathan FRANKLIN, which implies, according to the unofficial but commonly used naming rules used in Eastern Europe, a grandfather or great-grandfather named Nathan FRANKEL, presumably also of Minsk in Belarus.
