Joe,
I know precious little about one of my maternal great grandfathers, James Franey. He lived in Davenport, Iowa and was married to Anna Lillis who came via Kingston, Canada. Their daughter Emma C. Franey, my grandmother, was born June 17, 1869 in Davenport, Iowa. She died there December 25, 1935. Emma was married to George L. Riedesel of Wheatland, Iowa. The only thing I know about James Franey (so far) is that he went to sea part of the year. That was his job. He traveled to some seaport and returned to Davenport after the voyage.
