Gabriel Francoli Sr. was born July 4, 1855 in Compodalcino, Italy and came to America when he was 21 years of age. After traveling to Arizona, California and the west coast he settled in Genoa, Wisconsin, a small town made up mainly of Italiam immigrants.

Mary Buzzetti was born in Gallivaggio, Italy on November 11, 1858 and came to Genoa, Wisconsin, with her widowed mother, and a brother and sister when she was 8 years old. They came to America seeking a better life, as the mother feared for the lives of her children, when she tied them with a rope and dropped them down the side of the Alps to pull grass for their goats and feared they would drop down the mountain. At that time it was very dry and no food for the livestock. They traveled by steerage ship (a freighter) and endured many hardships to get to America and to their destination, Genoa, Wisconsin.

Gabriel and Mary were married Sept. 1883 in Genoa, Wisconsin and bore 7 children.

The family rented the John Chase farm on the banks of the James River, 2 miles east and 1/2 mile south of the Gallup elevator. When the house burned in 1923, they moved to the Walter Saft farm near Mellette. In 1925 they purchesed the John Chase farm and again moved on the farm, undergoing many hardships, but rebuilt the farm and spent the rest of their lives there.

Prima and William remained on the farm caring for their parents and undergoing the hardships of the 20s and the drought and dust storms of the 30s.

Mary passed away March 8, 1934 and Gabriel on Aug. 26, 1942. Both are buried in the Calvary Cemetery, Mellette, South Dakoda.
