Alfred C. Franco 1885 is my grandfather. Please contact me at encapsulated@att.net and I'll introduce you to someone in the US who is qualifying our entire lineage.

This is my family and they ran from the Azores as aristocrats. Some went to Cuba. They are part of the Castro family, my great grandmother was Maria Castro and the Castros, Freitas, Perreiras, Tavares, Francos, etc...were all cousins. Maria Candida Castro, my great grandmother married Manuel Freitas and produced Maria Perreira Freitas who married her third cousin Alfred Franco on 2/15/1908. My grandfather died many years ago and his last male heir died recently. From the Maui News. All other children are dead now.

There is a manifest that shows that one entire ship housed almost 500 fleeing Francos and cousins to the islands from the Azores. It’s available if you need it.

Alfred Franco Jr., 81

Alfred C. “Junior” Franco Jr., 81, of Wailuku, died Nov. 27, 2005, at Maui Memorial Medical Center.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Nakamura Mortuary, with a prayer service at 10:30 a.m. Inurnment will take place at Maui Memorial Park at a later date. The family requests casual attire.

Mr. Franco was born Aug. 9, 1924, in Paia. He was a retired supervisor for the county Department of Water Supply.

He is survived by his wife, Shigeko Franco; a son, Hideo Yonaha; and three grandchildren.

Uncle Joaquin Perreira Freitas, a Franco by lineage, owned the famous polo team in Hawaii and the Grandson of Manawar, a very famous horse. His photo use to be in the World Book Encyclopedia under the topic, Polo. I was proud of that as a child.

Although they did come to pick cane and pineapples they ended up owning many plantations and supplying pineapple for Dole for many years. My grandfather had 9 children and adopted two more girls then the son of one of the girls when she died. He had his last son, Alfred C, Junior, when much older by my step grandmother who was also a cousin as I mentioned. I would love to find my cousins through Shigeko Franco and am working to do that now.

The rest of the family is in the US, now, or most of them.
