Shanley,
Let me tell you what I know or at least what I think I know and see if that helps you.Captain Henry Francis birthplace is unknown - a lot of folks on the internet show
he was born in East Nottingham, Chester County, PA. - others have him born in Cecil County, Maryland. Most show his parents as William Francis b. 1700 and d. either 1744 or 1751. Most have his mother's name as Ann, but others have Mary.I have yet to see proof of either. Most have
William Francis' parents as John Francis and Mary Savoy, and John's parents as John and Mary Stokey, but once again I have never seen any proof. Here's what I have on Captain
Henry Francis. First known record of Henry is when he enlisted to serve in the French-Indian War on 31 January 1756. The record shows he was 22, which means that he had
to be born between 1-1-1734 and 1-31-1734. It is known from
records of May, 1780 that he had two brothers John and
William as he obtained land for their service in the French-Indian War.John was killed by Indians and the record simply says William died in service.I have found
records that show John enlisted in 1754 and was 35 years
old so he was born in 1719. He and Henry both enlisted in
Frederick County, Virginia. Records show Henry served 6 and
1/2 years and was discharged as a Sergeant. The next known
record of Henry is in Fincastle County, Virginia in 1768. He was married to Leah Unknown. Most show Leah Watson, but
I have never seen any proof.I have information that leads
me to believe her maiden name may have been Hood, but not
definite proof. There is only proof of Henry and Leah having two children - Henry Jr. b. 1 Apr 1755 and d. 28 Jan
1840 and John b. unknown d. Oct 1829. Other individuals have claim ancestral ties to Henry and Leah. Based on info
they have provided it is generally accepted that they also
had children named: William Thomas, Charles, Samuel and
Tabitha. Others claim they had children named Nathaniel,
Caleb, Catherine, John Bassett, et al, but I have never seen proof of any other than Henry Jr. and John who both
were in the Battle of Shallow Ford in which Captain Henry
was killed. Both Henry Jr. and John got land in Kentucky for their service and in 1795 both of them plus Samuel Francis and Tabitha Francis were in Madison County, KY.
People who claim that Charles Francis was son of Henry and
Leah say he settled in Crumpler, N.C. and was buried in
Virginia. People who claim William Thomas was son of Henry
and Leah show that he died in Jefferson County, Kentucky in
1801. Tabitha married a William Hicks in Madison County, KY. and they had one son prior to William dying/being killed (?). She then settled in Wayne County, KY. near John. John was sheriff of Wayne Countyfrom 1802-1813. He is
also known to have found salt on the Cumberland River. A long story, but while drilling for salt they struck one of the first deposits of oil. Of course, there were no engines, but it did ruin the salt find. HA! Henry Jr. was
the first jailer and obtain the first license to sell liquor in Pulaski County, KY. His first wife Rebecca died
and left him with three daughters. He remarried in 1798 to
Elizabeth Pearl and had a son and daughter. My lineage is:
Great-great-great-great grandparents - Henry and Leah Sr.
Great-great-great grandparents - Henry & Elizabeth PearlJr.
Great-great grandparents - Pearl (male) and Harriet Francis
Great grandparents - Henry and Elizabeth Jobe Francis
Grandparents - William Henry and Rhoda Coats Francis
Parents - Henry Valentine and Lena Reeves Francis
My extensive research leaves me with the following "brickwalls":
1. Where was Captain Henry Francis born
2. Who were his parents/grandparents/etc
3. Did he have siblings besides John and William
4. What was Leah 's maiden name and when and where was
she born and when and where did she die.
If you run across any of those things I would love to hear
from you or anyone else who can assist.Good luck and
God Bless.
Joe
