My Grandfather is Andrew Garland Witt who is the son of George Washington Witt who was born in 1853 in S Carolina and died in 1915 in Nacogdoches, Texas. I have traced my family tree only back to George Washington Witt and would like to continue the trace back to where I have been told was the Alsace Loraine region of France. I will be visiting that region next year and would like to know the village and the Witt names that my grandfather George Washington Witt traces back to. George Washington Wiit first married Margaret Crouch in 1874 in Newton County, Mississippi and had 3 children who were left with in-laws after Margaret died. George Washington Witt later Married Rhoda D. Pace and had 6 more children in Nacogdoches, Texas. Their first child was my grandfather Andrew Garland Witt who was born in 1884. Any information on what Witt's originated in Alsace Loraine would be appreciated.
