2012 Locating an ancestor in France
Dear fellow searchers,
2012 genalogy shall be like everyday," today is like yesterday"
but no despair,this is a message of hope after + Mas:
same tools, more information.
Some data will be data will added soon, among which files of emigrants to the New World.
So "Ask and you'll be replied"
Below, method reminder:
Without the name of a city, search by name is weak and might provide hundreds of answers.
But, with the help of internet, locating a name only by departement, regions("province") and period is easier with web site www.geneanet.org
Only constraint : register(free) to have a view on family trees
(search by surnames and couples requires pre paying, I have subscribed for "ad hoc"assistance to this forum )
Major avantages:
* interface in english
* coordinates of tree depositors
* approaching spelling
Other useful tool www.geneabank.org
(mostly before 1800 and parish registers before 1792)
Use the french flag = search is free
"Patronyme" means family name
"Commune" means city
Search is free, only the results need a pre subscribe
but remember some (so did I)people alredady subscribed for your assistance
Then after, if necessary, certificates can be obtained on departement web sites but few with english interface.
78/100 are on line, quasi totally free of charge
A good tool to know them:
