I received a tip that the Wadels might be from GildWiller but am not positive.
Apparently there was Hans (=John)Diebold (= Theobald) Wattell born 12 Ventose An 12 (3 March 1804) and a Jean Wadel born 11 Jul 1806 found at:
http://www.archives.cg68.fr/Services_Actes_Civils.aspxhttp://www.archives.cg68.fr/Services_Actes_Civils.aspx
and I was told that Hans Diebolt's birth record is at N 1793-1862 page 48 and that Jean's birth record is at N 1793-1806 p 57 (the name of Jean's father was Theobald)
Now John Theobald Wadel was born approximately in 1806 BUT that other one is 1804 - so not a huge difference.
I did also receive info from a ancestry.com user that he found Aloisia Schoefter's birth record on http://etat-civil.bas-rhin.fr/adeloch/index.phphttp://etat-civil.bas-rhin.fr/adeloch/index.php Aloisia Schoefter’s birth at N 1816 page 15/33.
Do you know of anywhere that has any of the records in English?
Also - any good tips on how to narrow down which (if either) of those Wadel/Waddel people might be the one who left for North America?
Thank you,
Cara
