James E. Harness, Paulette C. Marie 1945 Paris France
Hello, I'm looking for any information on James E. Harness, who lived near Pineville, Kentucky, in 1946. He served in the army in WWII, and was stationed in France in 1945. My Mother's maiden name was Paulette Christiane Marie. She was born in Le Mans, France in 1925. In 1945 she married James Harness in Paris, France. She was 8 mos. pregnant at that time. When the baby(my brother) was 6 mos. old she came to the U.S.(1946), on The George Goethalls war bride ship. She landed in New York, then came to Pineville, Kentucky by train. Was picked up by her father in law, and taken to a smaller town to their home. James was living with his parents and family at the time. According to my mother(who is now deceased), She spent one night there, and then left. However, she became pregnant on that night and 9 mos later had my sister. She divorced James, and remarried to my father in 1951, in Michigan, and he adopted both of the children.
The thing is...my brother looked very Asian, nothing like his sister, who is very blonde, fair skinned and looks very caucasian. So, we have always suspected that James may very well NOT have been the boy's real father, and perhaps he realized it too, and that is why things fell apart. However, he is my sisters biological father.
My sister has never seen even a picture of her real father, and for all we know, may have half brothers or sisters out there somewhere(she is now 62 years old).
So, if this story sounds familiar to anybody out there, or you know anything about a James E. Harness (probably born between 1915 and 1925), I would so appreciate hearing from you. It would really fill in some blanks for my sis.
Thank you, Diane Ebersole
