I was able to find the marriage contract between Jean Baptiste Lesage and Marie Josephte De Gerlais, signed before the notary Jean Baptiste Pottier on May 23rd, 1709, two days before the church wedding. For some unknown reason, some of this notary's files were kept with the Quebec National Archives in Quebec City, not Trois-Rivières. It is said in there that both parents, Jean Lesage and Marguerite Roussel were deceased at that date and had lived in Quebec City. No other information regarding their origin in France is noted. It therefore is likely that this is where they died.
There is no church record of the burial. This is one of several pieces of information I have now gathered that is leading me to suspect that they were protestants who had fled persecution in France.
I have posted a copy of the marriage contract on Geneanet.
