- The Sarthe/Maine et Loire area seems to be the origin, as far back as the 1890s.
Is this your William, possibly?

If so this is presumably his brother Harry:

Funeral services for Mrs. Agnes Lusson, 74 years old, a pioneer resident of the Hyde Park and South Shore districts, will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow in St. Laurence's Catholic church, 7140 Dorchester avenue. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery. Mrs. Lusson died in her home at 1337 East 72d place Wednesday night. Her husband, William, died three years ago. Surviving are a daughter and three sons.
All I can recommend is that you collect census records and other records for your relatives, and trace back until you find out who was the relative who originally emigrated from France. The name 'Essig' above (if this is your line), is found in the Alsace-Lorraine region so perhaps this is where the stories of your family origin being from that region come from.
