The following are notes by John H Tullock of Delano Tn.. These notes were printed in a book on Original families of Mcminn Co. Tn.

The tullocks are descendantss of david Tullock, the son of a Scots shipbuilder, who emigrated to Greene County ,Tennessee around 1825 from Scotland. He married Hannah Fraker and they had six children, one of whom , Elijah Matison, was an ancestor to all local Tullock's of McMinn and Polk County.

Following his wife's death around 1840, David's children were reared by relatives. as a result, when the Civil War started, at least two brothers Smith and Mat(Elijah Matison) joined opposing armies. Both survived the war, then refought it for the rest of their lives. some years ago , I told a descendant of smith that great-grandfather mat had been wounded several times. "Oh ,yes," he said, "Aunt Elizabeth (Smith's daughter) said that Mat was wounded in the back everytime!"

Mat Tullock married his cousin Sophia Fraker in 1865. Two sons, James and Charlie, came to McMinn County. they lived also at times in nothern Polk County at Pendergast(later named Delano) where they were employed by the Pendergast Cotton Mill. Charles, better known as Uncle Charlie, operated a livery stable from the big barn at Delano.

James (Jim) and his wife had three children, English Pierce tullock, samuel, and Lura Tullock Melton. English married Grace Payne while Sam married Carrie Visage. Sam and Carrie lived in Knoxville most of their adult lives .
