Hello to you - No, unfortunately I have no idea of the origin of the name, Foy.I was under the impression that it was quite common, which is one of the reasons I have been having problems finding where my mothers people came from as well as when they came.I have been told that my Ggrandfather Thomas Foy was one of 5 or 6 brothers, all of whom were professors at a university (which one?) in Ireland, and came to the US,probably due to the Great Famine.I think I know that he was unable to get a job in the US, (NO IRISHWELCOME!, you know) - so he went to work in the mines in Scranton area.My grandmother, Rose, was born in Minersville, Pa or WilkesBarre, Pa, depending on which source one cares to believe. At any rate, he died in an explosion on the first day on the job.I have not been able to get a copy of his death certificate or locate any burial site, but am still trying!
