FOY, FANTLEY L./TOWNSEND, MARY, IND 1850
I am descendent from Gilbert Townsend Sr. and Mary (Polly) Saxon through their son John.I am trying to complete information on all of their children, but particularly of Mary Ester and Fantley L. Foy.I have included some of the information I have in hopes that someone has more information on the Foy family.
I have a copy of Jacob Hess, Sr.'s will which names his daughter Elizabeth, wife of Jacob Foy.
I have a copy of Jacob Foy's will which refers to a son Daniel. Could Daniel be the father of Fantley?

THE EARLY SETTLERS
"Gilbert Townsend, Sr., son of Eber and Elizabeth (Drew) Townsend, married Mary Saxon in New Jersey and there their five older children were born. In 1815 they moved to Steuben county, New York where six other children were born. In 1839 they came to Blackford County, and settled in the southwest corner of Washington township and afterwards lived in Licking township. Nine of their children came with them, five or six of whom were grown at the time. Beginning with the oldest, their names are as follows: Charles, who married Harriet Bennett, and was the father of Gilbert W. and James B.; John, who married Temperance Householder, and was the father of Mrs. P. M. Covault and Lewis B. Townsend, now living in Hartford City; Gilbert Jr., who married Rachel Hess; Lucy Ann, who was the wife of Allen K. Gadbury; Sarah, wife of Thomas Ashen; James S., still living, who married Mary Leffler; Alva, still living, who married Elzara Shields; Elizabeth, who married Daniel Leffler and Mary, the wife of Fantley L. Foy. Gilbert Sr., died in 1861, aged eighty-one years. When he came here Hartford City consisted of one log cabin and a blacksmith shop."
"Another couple who were old as well as early settlers were Jacob and Elizabeth Foy, who both died in 1856, aged respectively eighty and seventy-eight years. "

FANT FOY DEAD
The death of Fantly Foy, 79, which had been expected for some time occured last Wednesday at the home of his daughter Mrs. Joseph Marley and the funeral was conducted Friday. The remains were taken to the Miles Cemetery in Blackford County for burial. James and Clem Foy, Mrs. Frank Wolf, Mrs. Joseph Marley and Miss Pearl Foy are the surviving children.
Did another daughter of Fantley and Mary Ester marry Joseph Marley or is Charles F. listed as married to Sarah Ann Foy a mistake?

Cecil E. Beeson, Blackford County Historian, gave me a photo taken at the home of James TOWNSEND on May 9, 1906. There are 39 people in this photo posed on the covered front porch of the house. The roof of the porch has a railing around it and shutter doors leading from a 2nd floor room open on to this “balcony”. One of those doors are open and a full-length mirror can be seen.. The porch floor is wood with a brick sidewalk leading to the porch. The picture was professionally taken by Nelson Starks or Stucks, Hartford City, IN.Pearl Foy is in this photo and it is noted that she was later Pearl Laramore.
