Marion County,SC Foxworth's
A Miss Foxworth married Leonard Smith in Marion County about 1813. Mrs. Smith's second husband was a Mr. Foxworth who
was the overseer of a plantation called Mexico Plantation . The plantation was owned by the Portier family & was located near Eutawville ,SC . Mr. Foxworth was a brillant man who designed a series of dykes around the plantation to prevent runoff from flooding that was caused by stripping the higher ground of trees for farming. The Portiers gave Mr. Foxworth a house a a good bit of land as a reward. Foxworth ,in turn, made sure that the slaves who had assisted him in the project were granted their freedom. I'd like to find
out the first names of these two Foxworths. I am descended from Leonard Smith (therefore Miss Foxworth?) but do not know how
she was related to her 2nd husband (if at all). Can anyone shed any light?
