I will paste below some of the information I have on the Fox family as I try to research the family of Elizabeth Fox who married David F. Bourquin in Chatham County, Georgia. Any help from anyone with nformation would be welcome. Fox American Wills Proved in London, 1611-1775, by Peter Wilson Coldham. 1689. Will of Alexander Parker, London, witnessed by Charles Fox and Edmund Cox. 1737. Herbert Haynes, Gloucester County, VA, witnessed by George Fox. 1760. Will of Phineas Evans, Essex, proved by Daniel Fox. 1714. Henry Fox, who had served as Burgess for King William County, died. (See: A HISTORY OF LOUISA COUNTY VIRGINIA for a good account of this man’s family, p. 317). 1767. Joseph Fox was executor of the will of Aaron Quarles, King William County, VA. Lancaster County, Virginia. In 1653-54, this county included both sides of the Rappahannock River as far west as settlement extended. Taxes were collected based on tithables, all freemen above sixteen, white imported male servants of any age, all imported Negroes and females of any age, all Indian servants of either sex above sixteen. See Virginia Tax Records, pp. 236-264. Second Levy. Feb. 6, 1654. David Fox, 16 tithables. 1696-1702. Capt. David Fox, 21 tithables. 1716. St. Mary’s White Chappell Parish. Madame Fox, 23 tithables. Georgia. A Fox was on the ship Anne with Oglethorpe in 1732. April 9, 1784. Georgia Colonial Records. Misc. Bonds and Conveyances. (Pub. in Georgia Gen. Magazine, Vol. 4). The Commissioners of Confiscated Estates of Georgia to John Martin of Savannah. Bill of sale conveying 10 slaves formerly the property of James Butler, George Fox, John Fox and Colin Campbell, named in the Bill of Attainder. (John Martin was governor in 1782-83). Elizabeth Fox married David Francis Bourquin in Chatham County, Georgia, about 1782. She died in 1786, leaving two children: Edward Josiah Bourquin and Ann Sophia Bourquin. She is buried with her husband in a little cemetery near Pooler Parkway in Chatham County. Feb. 2, 1837. Buried in Summerville Cemetery, Augusta, John Fox. His epitaph: “In memory of John Fox who departed this life 2nd day of February 1837 In the 82nd year of his life” Section 41, lot 25. January, 1863. George M. Fox applied for letters of administration for the estate of John L. Fox, deceased. Effingham County. Probate Court Docket Book, 1850-1864. 1903. A list of oaths of public officers in an old ledger at the Effingham County Courthouse in Springfield includes John C. Fox, p. 34, a notary and justice of the peace, 10th District.
