A biography of John F. Fox, Twin Bridges, MT, is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 3, page 719.

John F. Fox was born, 7 Oct 1860, son of Peter and Louisa (Bethausen) Fox. Peter Fox was born in New York City in 1824 and was in the clothing business there for some years before moving to become a clothing merchant at Milwaukee, WI, where he died in 1884. Louisa was born 1825 in Cologne, Germany, and died in Milwaukee, WI, in 1883. Peter and Louisa had three sons: William P. (a merchant at Sand Coulee, MT); John F. (Twin Bridges, MT); Harry F. (Milwaukee, WI).

John F. Fox began his education in New York City and completed his education at Milwaukee, WI. At age 15, he went to work in a Milwaukee store, and for ten years worked in various mercantile establishments in Detroit, MI. In the meantime, he came to Montana and helped his brother establish a store at Sheridan, MT, conducted as the Fox Brothers. He then went back to Detroit, and in 1899 moved to Twin Bridges, MT, where he established a successful business of dry goods and clothing. He was first president of the Farmers' Elevator Company of Twin Bridges and director of the First National Bank of Twin Bridges.

In 1888, Detroit, MI, John married Miss Katherine Wolfschlager, a native of Detroit. Child: Edna (Mrs. Washington J. McCormick, Missoula, MT)
