A book I own "Northern Virginia Heritage" by Eleanor Lee Templeman & Nan Netherton, has a little information on this man:
Page 43 - "The William Fowle House.. In 1797, James Patton bought a half-acre lot upon which he built a 'flounder' house. In 1810 William Fowle, a prominent merchant who had recently come from Boston acquired this and adjoining property extending to Washington and King Streets, enlarged the house for his eighteen children, and established elaborate gardens. 711 Prince St., Alexandria, VA."
