Is Fouche the same name as Furches?

My grandmother's name was Ruth Ann Furches (born 2/9/13 and died 4/3/72). Ruth's father's name was James Millard Furches (born 2/19/1983 and died 1969?)James lived with his wife Geneva Victoria Farmer in Damascus, Virginia until she died of a brain tumor in the 1940s. I have been told that the name Furches used to be Fouche and that the family came from France. Is this so? Are there any Furches out there? I know almost nothing about this family.
