re: Fothergills in Canada.
I am searching for my ancestors - my great grandfather was Charles Fothergill born Nov. 25, 1829 (approx.) in England. On his marriage register has his parents listed as Thomas & Elizabeth Fothergill - during reseach can only find a Elizabeth Fothergill - my great grandfather Charles named his 2nd son Joseph Wilson Fothergill - rumour was "Wilson" was from his mothers 2nd marriage or something. We do not know anything about Charles as he was very secretive about his past and would not talk about it. we did know he forwarded his mail onto someone in the States and they forwarded it on to England. Charles died in approx 1922. He apparently came into Canada from the States (do not know for sure) - worked on laying the railway line from York to Proton. Met and married my great grandmother Frances Rodgers on Dec. 4th, 1865. In the 1891 census they were listed in Euphrasia township (Ontario), in the 1871 census records in Proton township South Grey.
My grandfather was his 1st born son Edward Rodgers Fothergill born in 1868.
Charles apparently had siblings that were suppose to come out to Canada but no-one ever seen them.
Everthing we do know about him is just heresay - there is no-one left alive to ask.
any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
