Served as an ensign Va Continental Line form April 20 1777-April 20 1778, Lt of Infantry April 20 1778 to Dec 31 1781, enlisted in the company of his brother Capt James Foster and was a prisoner on parole in 1780.
Married April 5, 1781 Elizabeth his widow
Dies at Amelia Court house May 22 1789 where he was a tenant of a tavern.
Elizabeth dies May 22 1789 at the home of her son in law James Osborne in Charlotte co Va. she left the following children Daniel, Peter B, Patrick H, Maria Osborne, Nelson K and Martha A Noble.
Robert Foster was granted 2666 2/3 acres of bounty land in 1783 (Warren county Kentucky)
