Have you searched the 1850 census for these families you're looking for?It's a big job, but that's one of the best ways to do it. You have to look at the census line by line in these cases because if there is a problem with the spelling of the name, it will be difficult. If you are looking at Ancestry or other paid sites, keep in mind that the transcribers don't always type the right spelling. One of my Gwin's was typed in as Ewin, so I never would have found it without looking line by line for the first names.
