IDENTITY CRISIS!!! NEED HELP WITH MY NEW FOSTER LINEAGE.
Posted by: Hazel Clack (ID *****2746) Date: February 06, 2008 at 20:37:45

I just recently found out, and verified with a family member after searching the census records, that my G-grandfather was not a Smith. However, they did not know the circumstances of his birth and had thought that he possibly may have been illegitimate. The marriage record I located indicates that Clementine was previously married to an Unknown FOSTER. I am posting what I have thus far on Clementine in hopes that someone will recognize some of the names and can help me locate my FOSTER family. I don't know if unknown FOSTER died or if they divorced. I'm in desperate need of help on finding the name of unknown FOSTER and his family. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Hazel

**The 1860 census below has been verified to be the family of Clementine Turman. The marriage records posted on the official Elbert Co, Ga. website shows Lindsay E A Smith married Clementine FOSTER. The children, Warren W, John Singleton, and Talulah were born before Clementine married Lindsay E A Smith. Lindsay either legally adopted them, no adoption record found as yet, or they assumed the name Smith. Either way, my line is not from the Smith surname. It is now from the Foster surname.**

Marriage Record
SMITH, L. E. A. FOSTER, CLEMENTINE 23-Nov 1874 GA Elbert

Clemetine Turman married Lindsay E A Smith 23 Nov 1874 in Elbert Co, GA. From tracking Lindsay A E Smith using census records, it appeared that Clementine was married prior to marrying Lindsay A E Smith as the 1870 shows him to be age 23 and living in the household of his parents.

The 1880 census for Elbert Co, Ga. shows him to be age 35, wife Clementine age 30, with Warren W Smith age 14, John S Smith age 12, Taluha Smith age 10, Harper Smith age 5 and Lindsay Smith age 3.

The 1900 census shows Clementine age 50 Widow, with Warren W 33, Harper 23, Lindsay 22, Lilly M 15 and Ora 10.

The 1910 census shows Clemetine age 60 as Mother in the household of Warren W Smith age 43 Head Single and brother Ora Smith age 20.
