Plainview News April 26, 1884-Death of Josiah Foster
Josiah C. Foster was born January 20th, 1815 in Erie County, PA.Was married to Miss Elizabeth Grier 49 years ago.In 1851 moved to Ohio in, and to Wabasha County, Minnesota in 1856, and died April 20, 1884.He joined the Methodist Episcopal Church in Ohio 32 years ago, and remained a member unto his decease.He was class leader and Steward in his early days at Cook's Valley and Highland.(Note:Cooks Valley is a locale near Kellogg, and Highland is a township inWabash County near Plainview.)And two days before his death when his pastor was visiting him, he chose for his funeral sermon text Rev. 14:13- which reads "I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth; Yea saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them."The sermon was preached at the residence of his son Zelotus Foster by Rev. Alfred Cressey, April 22 and there was a large number of neighbors attended the funeral.Thus another of Minnesota's early settlers has gone to his long home.His wife, four sons and one daughter remain, and one daughter and five boys went before.These who are left mourn not as those who have no home.

Mrs. Elizabeth Foster, mother of Messrs. Zelotis, George, Don and Mrs. E. P. Balcom, died at the residence of her son George, Saturday morning at 8 o'clock, aged 76 years.The funeral took place from the residence at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon, Rev. J.B. Renshaw officiating.Mrs. Foster was an early settler of Wabash county.She came here with her husband in the year 1856.Until 1882 they resided in the vicinity of Cook's Valley but Owing to her age they then made their home with their son, Zelotis and George at which place Mr. Foster died in 1882 (Meant 1884).
