Problem with Josiah Foster-Martha McKissick connection
Help!!!
I am confused.
Some folks have Martha McKissick married to Josiah Foster (son of Mary and Josiah Foster Sr.)
Now here is what I have:
Josiah Sr. 1754-1829 m. Mary Foster 1764-1849. The only child I knew they had so far was Docia Foster. Docia is my fifth great grandmother. Anyway Docia married James J. Spears and their son was Josiah Spears who was married to Martha McKissick. I show him having children named James, Sarah, George, Joshua, and Mary.
I would have thought maybe I was mistaken but I have a copy of a document printed in 1907 which is a letter from one of the Spears boys, Charley, to the Eastern Cherokee Nation, making a claim that his great grandmother Roxy Delilah Scissism was full blooded cherokee.
Now given that he gave several names of his siblings and other relatives, it would seem he couldn't have been mistaken.
Here's what part of the statement from his counsel says:
"Roxy Delilah Scissism married William Spears, and had children, James Spears, who married Docia Foster, and had child named Josiah, who married Martha McKissick, who left desciendants James J. Spears, Sarah E. Spears Edge, George H. Spears, Joshua T. Spears and Mary Spears Carmichael"
Ok folks, what do you think?
