I have the same marriage information for Jeptha M Fortson as being in Panola county. Panola county was a focal point for many Fortsons in this family's history apparently.
I have been tracking James A Fortson and have a lot of material on him as he married into my Rogers family, also in the area of Panola, Shelby, Rusk, Anderson and Cherokee counties.
Do you have any information on Jeptha's father Aaron J Fortson or the identity of Jeptha's mother?

I have a transcribed copy of the 1870 census for Panola County if you do not have it. it shows Sarah Fortson age 87(?).
It also shows Jeptha Monroe Fortson, age 25 which would be the correct age, time and place for him to be.
