Hi Ron. Fortson tracing is not easy. I was interested in your post and list of Fortsons, so much that I am now trying to find all those people. I believe the lady I spoke with lived in Kilgore or Gladewater, Texas, Co. of Gregg. I now know that Maxwell O.Fortson was in the 1930 Dallas Co.Tx. census with wife and daughter as you listed and that he was born " August, 1897 in Lauderdale Co. Ms and was a son of Warren Fortson b. 1873 Lauderdale Co.Ms and died in the 1950's and wife Frances McDonald b. 7 Dec. 1874, Ms. Warren was a son of Joseph G. Fortson and Grandson of Samuel H. Fortson." Maxwell Fortson information supplied by Roderick Bush. I am sure you have read his posts in the Fortson forums. Harrison and Claude and family members are listed in the Gregg Co.Tx. census and I have not tried to trace them back further . If these are your family members, then you are part of the Fortson family that have held reunions in Kilgore, Gregg Co.Texas before. I have not read of any reunions lately. I also found an Abner and J.A. Fortson listed as step sons of a John Simms. ?? My Fortson ancestors are also listed in Gregg Co.Tx. in the 1910 census. Fortson, Jeptha M. 65 Ms. Ga. S.C. Farmer Margaret (wife) 60, Al, Fl. William (Henry) son, 32, S. Tx Ms. Al. Farmer This Jeptha M. Fortson enlisted CSA DeSoto Parish, La. and migrated after the war to Panola Co.Texas, McLennan and Van Zandt, Tx. and on to Gregg Co.Tx. by 1902. He and his father had lived La., Al. and Ms.with family roots in Ga. Jeptha M. Fortson was a son of Aaron J. Fortson, b. 26 Jul. 1816 Elbertson,Ga. d. after 1880 (VanZandt Co.Tx.?) m. Pamelia Willbanks. Aaron was a son of William Fortson, married Ann Higginbotham. Any information from your wife's mother would be very valuable in your search. Good luck.
